Strange situation, advice please?

I am dating this guy for some time. He rarely takes me out. Basicly we spend tima at his home. When I asked him to take me to see a movie i really want to see. He said you basicly saw them all and that he might take me, when he'll buy a new car. When i as ked if he was saving money on me, he flipped out and said he is not some rich guy and i should know how much middle class guy earns. I didin't expect that. Should i just let it go or get worried that he can't take a girl out for a movie, maybe he is cheap or doesn't consider me wirth taking out...?
