Can you drive a jeep cherokee with a loud idler pulley?

We just bought a jeep cherokee about 2 weeks ago.. a 1998. My husband called me for work today which is about 35 minutes away and said the idler pulley was making a loud noise. I want to get it fixed today but I don't know if I should spend 150.00 to get it towed or if he can drive it home? We aren't "car smart" and I have no idea!! Please help!
