ATV shifter question?

I have a 1994 yamaha timberwolf atv. When I first got it when I would lift the shifter all the way up while giving it gas it would disengage and rev really high. Now when I lift the shifter while giving it gas it stays in gear. It is a semi automatic transmission. Not a big deal but now I can't pop the clutch to do wheelies.
